Exercise Advice For The Regular Person 03/12/13

Something I was just telling my mom do was for her to try to do the plank position for one minute every day.

Benefits of doing the plank:

- Works your ABS, Obliques and lower back
- Helps with stability
- Strengthens your upper body
- Helps with posture

How to do a plank:

- Lie flat on the floor
-Get in push up position and hold it
- Tighten your ab muscles
- Your Legs can be a little farther apart if need be.

Try holding this position for at least 30 seconds and for three reps.

Exercise Advice For The Regular Person 02/25/13

I am a multi tasker so here is a workout that works your entire upper body and abs and once again it is something you can do at home in front of the TV, while playing with the kids, or while at the gym...



Start in a plank. Walk hands together so thumbs and forefingers form a triangle. Do a complete push-up (as shown) for 1 rep. Too tough? Lower your knees. Do 12 reps.

Todays simple tip is about portion control.

I know a lot of people say this but there is a reason for it. Watching your portions and eating your meals slower really does help you cut calories and fill full quicker.

Not to mention, if you are really hungry and you scarf down your food, you will end up consuming more calories than if you had served yourself a smaller plate to begin with.

Portion control is a part of the HERBALIFE program and very important to healthy and consistent weight loss.

Exercise Advice For The Regular Person 02/19/13

Lets get some serious six pack abs.. something you can do at the gym or at home in the living room.


Weighted Ball Crunches


Lay face up on a mat or workout bench. Place a small weighted ball or 3- to 8-pound free weight between your inner thighs. Lift your feet off the ground, bringing your legs into a tabletop position. On an exhale, curl up lifting your shoulders, head and arms off the ground. Hold at the top and inhale. Exhale again and stretch your legs out in front of you at a 45-degree angle. Inhale and draw the legs back to tabletop. Repeat 10 times. Do 3 sets, staying lifted through each repetition and lowering your head and shoulders back down at the end of each set

Exercise Advice For The Regular Person 02/11/13


I know a lot of women complain about their arms being flabby and weak or chubby, so here is a simple arm workout that I do at the gym but you can actually do it on the couch right in front of the TV:

With couch on right, a dumbbell in left hand, place right knee on couch. Lower torso parallel to couch; place right hand on couch for support. Extend left arm to floor, palm facing in. Bend arm and lift elbow back to shoulder level so upper arm is parallel to floor. Extend arm straight back (as shown). Return to start and repeat reps; switch sides.
  • WORKS BACK, ARMS

Who doesn't want a nice booty and tummy? I know I am all about it.

And what is nice is that this is something you can do while watching TV, in the Gym, outside at the Park, wherever you workout.


Get in squat position, legs shoulder width apart, heads behind head, elbows out, keep that squat position as you crunch from side to side. Hello Tight Obliques.  Do 20 for 10 on each side, try 3 sets :) Picture courtesy of self magazine. :)

Everyday Exchanges and Tips 2/2/13

Sooo I do not necessarily think this is a tip, but rather a recipe/suggestion.


Eating healthy is not hard to do, even if you do not have a lot of stuff in the house.

Tonight I made dinner for my folks, and I literally threw together what I could find.

There were some chicken breasts, two big carrots, a red onion and some red potatoes in the house.

Well I threw it all together with lemons, beer, OJ, salt, pepper, garlic, bay leaves and minced onion.


I put all this in a dutch oven and then in the regular oven at 450 for about 45 minutes. SOOOO juicy!

And then some frozen green beans on the stove.

So good and and good for you. Keeping up with your health and routine includes a good meal :)

You can do this at home.


Stand facing wall about a foot away, arms extended and hands on wall, left knee raised to hip level. Keep elbows in line with shoulders and lean forward until forearms rest on wall as you extend left leg back (as shown). Reverse for 1 rep. Do 10 reps. Switch legs; repeat. Todays Tip is a multi-tasker which is my favorite thing to do and I promise you will see a lot more multitasking workouts from me.


Today we will work our glutes and our obliques with one move you can do just about anywhere.

Stand with feet hip-width apart, hands behind head, elbows out. Squat (as shown); stand, crunching left elbow to left hip. Return to squat. Repeat on right. Alternate sides for 30 seconds.


After your workout do not forget to drink lots of water, a glass of tea and have a protein snack. I recommend the vanilla almond HERBALIFE protein bar. :)

Exercise Advice for the Regular Person 1/23/13

Lets work our tushy today!


Get on all fours, hands shoulder width apart on ground and palms flat.

Knees bent touching ground. I want you to lift your leg up at a 90 degree angle keeping feet parallel (flat towards the ceiling) and pump it up for one rep! Pump, pump, pump! Keep that knee bent, and that foot flat and imagine your foot is trying to lift off the ceiling.

Do 10-15 whatever you can do, then switch legs and do it again.
Try 3 sets while watching TV. This is something you can do at home while your little ones play on the floor, or while ur husband watches ESPN.

If you are at the gym you can do this too! If you are feeling brave take a 5-10 pound dumbbell and place it in the fold of your knee and hold it there while completing this exercise.

Lets get our bootys nice and firm.

Todays tip is an important one to follow...

STOP DRINKING YOUR CALORIES!

You know it is wrong to have that giant Starbucks or Jamba Juice drink. You know that Large McDonalds shake is going to go to your hips and gut.

So Stop doing it!

Make smarter choices. Me personally, I always drink water. But I have my cravings too ya know.

If I go to Starbucks I get a tall drink, no whip, non fat milk and I add cinnamon for metabolism boosting benefits.

Just be reasonable.

Now if you want to burn calories, give yourself energy and a boost full of antioxidants, then I suggest Herbalife Tea Concentrate. In fact, I am drinking it right now.

Lets Try Something A Bit More Complicated

But it is definitely a great workout.

CIRCUIT TRAINING:

A way to emerge yourself in to this type of training is to just start small.

Something I frequently do is get on a weight machine, anyone, and do one set of 10-15 reps. Then I will get off and do jumping jacks, jog in place, push ups, calf raises, whatever, but I will do one set of these and get back on the machine.

Try doing this with three different machines and you will feel the difference. Your heart rate stays up, you are using muscle confusion by doing different workouts back to back and you are training yourself to get used to bigger rounds of circuit training.

Trust me it is worth it.

Todays tip is spicy!


An easy way to rev up your metabolism is to add more spice to your diet. But this is not exclusive to chile peppers.

You can extra pepper to season your food, cinnamon, nutmeg, cayenne, allspice, garlic.


Adding these extra spices to food, drinks, snacks, etc.... will rev up your metabolism without any extra effort on your part. Not to mention, your food will have a delicious kick.

Dont forget to have your Herbalife Shake for breakfast, you can add a little cinnamon to it.

Exercise Advice for the Regular Person 1/21/13

Todays exercise advice is when to do squats!


I try to do squats as often as possible.

One perfect time to do them is when you are brushing your teeth. Since you are supposed to brush your teeth for two minutes, this is a great time to get in a workout.


2 minutes of squats everyday will get your buns and thighs and looking nice.

Extra tip: I do squats in the shower too when I am washing my hair....

Todays easy advice is with butter....


If you do not mind making a swap, I prefer to use, I Cant Believe it is Not Butter.

The original has only 70 calories per serving and the light has only 45 calories!

That is crazy if you ask me. And, I absolutely love it, it actually tastes good.

Regular butter has about 90 calories a serving, and trust me this adds up.

So if you can make the swap, then do it, it is worth it.

Exercise Advice for the Regular Person 1/19/13

Todays exercise tip is great for your upper body.

It is a standing push up that I do whenever I am cooking a meal in the kitchen.

Basically, you lean on the counter, hands shoulder width apart, legs out behind you just far enough to give you tension when you lean down against the counter as if you were doing a push up.

This is very easy to do, which is why I like it, and it is still effective.

I will do maybe 4 or 5 sets of about 10 reps.

So next time you are in the kitchen making an Herbalife shake, throw in a set of counter push ups.

Exercise Advice for the Regular Person 1/18/13

Todays easy exercise tip for the day has to do with simplicity:


While you are watching TV make an effort to work out during commercials.
I know you hear it all the time but it is true, every little bit of work out helps.

I do this on the regular. During the evenings while watching television with my hunny, I sit on the edge of the bed and do sit ups. You can do bicycle sit ups, regular sit ups, or for more difficulty you can do these sit ups:

sit on the edge of the bed, hands under butt, while maintaining your balance, lift your legs straight up in the air and drop them straight down to be parallel to the ground, then lift back up for one rep.

These are great for your lower abdomen....


So during commercials get your work out on, you will not regret it.

Who has a sweet tooth? I know I do!

But sweets can do a lot of damage, especially if they are high in sugars and carbs.

A simple thing I have learned to do, even if it sometimes stinks, is to never add whipcream to anything.

Examples: Starbucks drinks, milkshakes from Sonic, Sundaes, etc...

Just saying no to whip cream can save you an additional 100 calories.

There are about 52 calories in 1 tablespoon of whip cream, so if you make sure to avoid the creamy stuff on all your drinks and desserts, imagine how many calories you can avoid just by simply saying "no" to a little fluff?

I think that is easy and worth it.

I want to post helpful hints and ideas every day.

So here is my first one...


Use mustard instead of mayonnaise on your sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs because it can save you close to 100 calories per 2tbs.

That sounds like a good and healthy idea to me.
